Did I mention…kittens!

Yes, I know I did…but aren’t they just tooooo cute!

Excellent news this morning – we have a flight. Woop and for that matter woop. Spoke to BA’s Sri Lankan customer support, who I have to say were very helpful, and efficient, and altogether top hole – which given the strain they must be under is no mean feat. They offered a flight in three days, but we’re enjoying ourselves so much here we put it back to the 12th. Fingers crossed…

Mission accomplished, we celebrated by, you’ll never guess, going back down the beach, where we found a lovely little break in the foliage, complete with handy logs for lolling, and settled down for a bit of light reading, before – you guessed – another frolic in the surf.

Came back and feasted on Bombay mix and bananas, then back to the beach for a bit more lazing around and a proper swim or two. Loads of local lads turned up and had a great time, playing volleyball, splashing around in the surf, and chucking sand at each other. Boys will be boys. A few small groups of girls came and watched them from the beach, but only one or two were bold enough to take part in any way. Each to their own. And it’s really nice to see the place enjoyed by local people rather than just tourists.

And that’s about it for today. In an hour or so we’ll be heading back to the place we found last night on the main drag – with some relief, because most we came across were closed, the season for this part of the world not really due to kick off for another month or so. Bloke in a place we did find open was insistent that we take a seat, ignoring Virle’s request for a menu twice before acceding to mine, but we didn’t think much of the vibe, the fare on offer, or the touristy prices. So it was great to find a proper local’s gaff where we were greeted with a bright smile before being served really nice food (‘that’s proper spicey!’) and two of the best fruit juices we’ve had in Sri Lanka. And all for less than Mr take-a-seat’s place wanted for one basic dish. When you’re as tight as we are, a fair price is the best sauce. We’re not proud.
