A day of rest. Ish.

Gaete, Italy

For the first time in three weeks we’ve not pushed a pedal.

There’s rest and there’s rest of course, and some people’s might not include an hour and some’s trek over the headland to the beach on the other side, but by recent standards, that really was a doddle. And the beach was wonderful: a vast expanse of golden sand, with just a handful of walkers, sunbathers, surfers and swimmers. Got my swim in the ocean at last – sweet!

Now we’re just chilling back at the apartment, enjoying the sloth and a nice cup of coffee, looking forward to tonight’s All Blacks v Saffers showdown (after last night’s thoroughly lowering triumph agin the Pumas…as I said to Daniel, there was only one side playing any rugby, and it wisnae us). Jens, like most Danes, is a big rugby fan, so he’s getting in a snooze to prepare for the upcoming excitement. ‘way the AB’s!

Tomorrow we depart in the general direction of Salerno. Apparently there are hills down this part of the country. Whodathunkit.
