Adapting to sloth

Sunset Beach, Koh Rong Sanloem island, Cambodia

We’re a very adaptable species.

After two months and change of flying here and bussing there and doing this and doing that and seeing this and trying that and exploring here and checking out there we now find ourselves in a place where there’s really nowhere to go and nothing to do and…it’s really very easy to slip into a whole new mindset.

For the first day or two it was mainly an overwhelming sense of relief. We’d been at it so long – and travelling, however enjoyable, is whatever else a seven days a week business – that just being able to lie around and do nothing was a blessing in itself. Then, for me at least, there was a brief period, perhaps a day, of slightly itchy feet. Shouldn’t we be doing something? Going somewhere? But I got over it. And now we’re rather ruefully counting the days before we have to leave this shangriest of lahs and return to the world of bus tickets and finding somewhere to eat where the food is tasty and not too expensive.

Two left. And counting.
