Anyway, moving on…
Wow but it’s nice here. An island so small that you can walk from our beach to Sunrise Beach – literally right across the island – in about 15 minutes. And that’s not walking fast. Because even now, at five in the evening, it’s 31 degrees, and ‘feels like 37’.
So, Thailand. From what little we’ve seen of it, we think we’re going to like it a lot. It would be daft to generalise from such a small and unrepresentative bit, but thus far the weather’s been great, the scenery wonderful, the food tasty and the people friendly and helpful. What more could you ask.
Haven’t done a great deal today, despite waking up at 6 in the ay em. The heat discourages great exertion. We’ve been up and down the main drag – there is one – and bought masks and snorkels, which we took over to Sunset Beach. Absolutely the best snorkelling I’ve ever experienced – stunning fish aplenty – though Virle assures me I ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. Well, if that’s nuthin’, I sure cain’t wait to encounter sump’n.
What better way to end the day than to head over to Sunset Beach for the, for want of a better word, sunset. Plan A was to take stools at the front of the verandah at the bar, order a beer, and wait. Which went well until we realised that the sun was over there, which meant we wouldn’t be able to see the main event from here. Still, our time wasn’t entirely wasted, as I managed to get one shot before the sun went down…
Then we headed down to the beach, where we could see the denouement. Not that I could photograph it very well, on account of the dozen or so people standing between us and the sea taking pictures. But then, after they’d all cleared off (“That’s all folks!”) I got a bonus, when a little girl came down to play in the shallows…
Who knows, maybe one of these days I’ll actually get to photograph the main event.
