Away we go!

Last morning in Colombo, what to do? Ah! The red mosque that we went to yesterday, early, as advised by the guide book, only to find it closed to visitors till 10.30. Ok. Today that works for us. We could drop by the market, go to the mosque, then not much hanging around for our train. Except when we got there we discovered that today it was open to visitors after 1.30. So that was that. Never did get to see it, which is a shame, cos it looked very well worth a visit from the outside.

At a bit of a loose end, we decided to take a bus a few miles north to Crow Island Beach, and spend a little time away from the city mania. And it all went well. The beach turned out to be a scrappy bit of foreshore,m but a small shack sold us some lemonade and we sat on a bench, just enjoying the breeze and the quiet. Then back to town, and to the station, where we joined a hundred other tourists on the train to Galle. And on,in our case, to Matara – the end of the line, and our stopping off point for a tuk tuk ride to our Tallala guest house.
