Koh Libong is a lovely, unspoilt island. Truth be told, ‘attractions’ are pretty thin on the ground. This morning we decided to start by visiting one of the top tips: Point Dubong, where a tower has been built to aid viewings of the ever more elusive dubong – an aquatic beastie something like a walrus without the tusks. True to form, it failed to appear. But we were rewarded by sightings of two large turtles, surfacing for air, which was plenty enough to make the trip worthwhile.
Back in the village, we managed to track down ‘the best coffee on Libong’ – quite believable, in fact, made in proper espresso pots on the stove, and really quite tasty, compared to the standard fare hereabouts – weak Nescafe made with condensed milk.
Then off again to reportedly the best snorkeling beach on the island, which proved to be a bit of a let down, with barely a fishy to be seen. But we had a nice time as per, splashing around in the warm water and bothering what fish there were.
Then we caught up on our laundry, ready for moving on tomorrow, before heading over to major attraction mk2 – The Stone Bridge. Which proved to be a stone hole in a rock, maybe three metres across. Underwhelming, some. But it was a nice beach, and our trip there was enlivened when we were grabbed by a group of bubbly and highly colourful Thai ladies d’un certain age who insisted on us joining their group photo.
Then over to Jens and Jessica’s place for a beer and – you guessed it – another stunning sunset.
