Nilaveli’s beachin’ dood

After the last couple of days’ expeditions, we decided to relinquish the scooter (there really is nowhere else to go) and head back to the beach. Along with, it soon turned out, literally hundreds of locals. We’d forgotten it was a Saturday.

Boy but they must be wrinkly by close of play – they were out there all day! Having a whale of a time. Loads of families, women in the water as well as watching on from the beach, and of course loads of lads, jumping in the waves. A real party atmosphere, and lovely to see.

We spent our time sunbathing, swimming and reading, and had a treat at lunchtime, when we found our way to a shack our lovely host lady had told us she set up at weekends, where we had a very nice lunch of deep-fried munchies involving prawns and chillis and fish and eggs and the like, for which she refused any payment, insisting we were her guests. And should return tomorrow for more of the same. Which we will. Not least on account of we’re going to be stuck here a while longer, since BA told us this morning that our replacement flight has also been cancelled. Oh well, if you’re going to get stuck somewhere…
