Coming into Kuala Lumpur from the airport feels like travelling into the future. Every building is vast, super-high, and about a week and a half old. None of the frenzy of Vietnamese cities – hardly a beep, much less the sheer anarchy of, say, Saigon. It all feels very calm, very organised. And, it has to be said, compared to Vietnam, thus far at least, a bit dull. Still, early days. I’m sure things will liven up when we leave the big smoke. And in truth, in the aftermath of a gruelling 14 hour flight, there’s a lot to be said for a bit of dull. Still haven’t quite got over the novelty of being on the 32nd floor and dwarfed by adjacent buildings.
